Mr. Frank Matus has close to 20 years of experience establishing strategy and development initiatives for emerging air traffic management concepts and solutions in the United States and the global aviation market.
In his role at Thales, Matus leads a team developing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) for customers in North America, Australia and the United Kingdom. Matus leads collaboration efforts with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC)—a program that enables drone pilots to receive authorization to enter controlled airspace. The platform is used by the FAA’s New York Test Site, with the Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance (NUAIR). Matus is also leading an effort investigating UTM – Air Traffic Management (ATM) integration activities globally. Matus plays an important role in developing customer value propositions and integration of technology solutions from other Thales companies. Matus was an integral part of the DataComm tower automation platform (DTAP) concept development with the FAA. Matus is a member of the Transport Canada / NAV CANADA Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Traffic Management (RTM) Working Group to define policy and performance requirements for UAS/RPAS integration in Canada. Matus is also responsible for strategy and business development efforts for air traffic flow management (ATFM) and for air traffic control automation in North America.
