EUROPEAN U-SPACE POLICY SUMMIT – 15 MARCH, ONLINE

The European U-Space Policy Summit was the first event of the Harmonized Skies 2022 series. Centred on the topic “From standards to market: Can we get a competitive U-Space services market?“, the event featured panel sessions, networking activities and roundtables.

Uncrewed Traffic Management systems are developing around the world. Yet in Europe, the application date of the U-Space regulation (January 2023) creates special momentum. The Global UTM Association aims to contribute to this momentum and leverage the key takeaways that should become a great source of inspiration for other regions. GUTMA actively pursues a harmonized global UTM services market.

Theme 1: Where should U-Space be introduced? (2:20-3:15pm CET)

What is the role of automated software and telecommunication infrastructure in the U-Space market? What will differentiate the services provided in rural and urban environments? The public and private sectors discuss the challenges to a successful deployment of U-Space services.

Theme 2: How to enter the U-Space market? (3:15 – 4:05pm CET) 

Oversight, standards and certifications will define the U-Space services market. Civilian authorities and companies exchange their views on the requirements to regulate the emerging UAS market with a set of agreed rules without stifling competition.

Theme 3: Demand-side issues (4:20 – 5:15pm CET)

The development of a fair and efficient U-Space services market requires a clear definition of priorities and objectives for all the stakeholders involved. Experts from public institutions and the private sector discuss the demand-side issues affecting the drone ecosystem.

Theme 4: Supply-side issues (5:15 – 6:05pm CET)

The demand for drone operators is only going to increase if the U-Space market can provide a level-playing field for Air Navigation Service Providers to operate in a fair and competitive environment. A diversified set of speakers debates over the supply-side issues facing the emerging U-Space market.
