On 27 March the Global UTM Association hosted the the first-meeting of the Global Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) Network, setting its new initiative in motion.
With around 50 CAA representatives from 18 different countries attending, the meeting truly inaugurated a new global platform to discuss the most relevant topics in the UTM and drone sector. The network aims to represent a bridge between national Civil Aviation Authorities, facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing on specific themes related to the global harmonization of Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) Systems.
A look back at the first meeting
The first meeting focused on the UTM Ecosystems’ Readiness Index 2024 Report the result of a rigorous effort by a dedicated GUTMA Task Force. The report provides a global overview of UTM readiness of about 70 ICAO Contracting States and identifies best practices and gaps to address.
The meeting saw the participation of countries from different regions at different stages of UTM development, providing an opportunity to create new connections and share best practices. The countries represented at the meeting were Australia, Barbados, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Suriname, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.

WHAT’S NEXT
The next meeting is fixed for the 22nd of May. GUTMA’s objective is to reconvene the network at A regular a pace every two months, retaining the same format: after a presentation by a GUTMA member, CAAs will have the opportunity to exchange views on the topic at hand. The UTM Ecosystem is rapidly evolving, with new regulatory frameworks emerging and increasingly complex BVLOS operations being implemented around the world. From cybersecurity issues and standards to data-sharing and governance agreements, many topics are up for discussion.
In the meantime, GUTMA continues to engage with CCAs around the world and enrich the future meeting with even more perspectives. If you represent a CAA, GUTMA welcomes your input and looks forward to your contribution to the network. Contact us here.
