skeyes becomes one of the first organizations in Europe to operate an automated platform that enables real-time data exchange between manned and unmanned aviation. This certification, announced at the press conference at the skeyes site in Steenokkerzeel, Belgium on June 16 2025, marks a milestone in the integrated management of drone airspace.
The announcement was made in the presence of key stakeholders, including representatives from the drone industry, the broader aviation sector and public policymakers. As a recognised Common Information Services Provider (CISP) skeyes can now offer a secure platform that facilitates seamless, real-time communication between manned aircraft and drone operators.
Until now, part of skeyes’ core mission has been to oversee drone activity and ensure operators comply with aviation safety standards when integrating into the Air Traffic Management (ATM) environment. This certification enhances that role, enabling skeyes to play a pivotal part in Europe’s evolving airspace ecosystem.
With the rapid growth of drone activity across European skies and the imperative to align with the European Union regulatory framework, this development marks a significant step forward. It lays the foundation for safe, coordinated coexistence between manned aircraft and unmanned aerial systems—bridging communication gaps and supporting the long-term integration of drones into shared airspace.
This achievement follows the recent certification of ANRA Technologies, another GUTMA member, as a U-space service provider by EASA, and needs to be viewed in light of the last steps in the establishment of a U-space airspace in Zurich by the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), also a GUTMA member. Together, these milestones signal a new era for European airspace, where innovation and safety go hand in hand. GUTMA is proud of being part of these key milestones and will continue to promote open and competitive markets to drive innovation and global harmonization.
