The Global UTM Association (GUTMA) is delighted to announce the launch of its second event, the APAC UTM Summit, within the high-level event series Harmonized Skies 2022 in July 2022. Through Harmonised Skies 2022, GUTMA gathers industry leaders and policy stakeholders from all over the world to discuss the most topical issues surrounding the drone ecosystem.
The APAC UTM Summit is the second event of the 2022 Harmonized Skies series. It will take place online on 12 July 2022 at 09:00 – 13:30 (JST), and will engage policymakers and key industry stakeholders of the Asia-Pacific region.
Centred on the topic “How can we transport more passengers, cargo, and data by drone? “, the APAC UTM Summit focuses on the policy, regulatory, and industry issues related to key APAC markets.
The Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM) in the APAC region
The development of UTM applications is growing at a rapid pace. Drones are expected to carry data, acting as flying platforms for the Internet of Things, passengers, and cargo over long distances. These innovative applications stimulate a new wave of automation and digitisation that will require more automated systems for UTM. These systems are being developed worldwide, including in the Asia-Pacific region.
How will the APAC region contribute to a globally harmonized UTM framework?
The particularity of the APAC region is the wide variety of local requirements and differences in regulatory frameworks for these new technologies. Even though all states are aware of the global nature of UTM and drone technologies, a harmonized response is an ongoing challenge.
The APAC UTM Summit will include sessions providing an overview of the status of UTM in various APAC countries, as well as a panel discussion on the need for harmonization at this unique and challenging time. The Global UTM Association wants to create more momentum and learn from other regions. GUTMA actively pursues a harmonized global UTM and drone services market for a thriving drone-services ecosystem.
